What is a gummy smile?

Non-surgical gummy smile treatment
A gummy smile can be treated with TADs (temporary anchorage devices) during orthodontic treatment. TADs are tiny screws that are implanted into the jaw bone to serve as anchors that guide teeth into the ideal position, reducing and optimizing gum display.
Using TADs for a gummy smile is a non-surgical approach, less invasive than orthognathic (jaw) surgery. Traditionally, invasive and costly orthognathic surgery was the only option for gummy smile patients, and this limitation forced many people to live with the self-consciousness that comes with gummy smiles.. With Dr. Lin’s non-surgical approach to gummy smile treatment, his patients can now get the confident smile they want without going through extensive jaw surgery.
